# Install the download version

This page shows which file fits your computer and how to install it. All files are on
**[download.tournament.app](https://download.tournament.app)**:

- [download.tournament.app/kickertool/download](https://download.tournament.app/kickertool/download) and
  [download.tournament.app/petanque/download](https://download.tournament.app/petanque/download) pick the
  right file for your system and start the download.
- [download.tournament.app/kickertool](https://download.tournament.app/kickertool) and
  [download.tournament.app/petanque](https://download.tournament.app/petanque) list all files, if you need
  a different one.

The automatic download is right for most Windows PCs and current Macs. Check the table below if you use
Linux, a Windows PC with an ARM processor or a Mac with an Intel processor.

## Which file do I need?

| System | File ends with | Note |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Windows 10/11 | `_x64-setup.exe` | Signed by tournament.io UG |
| Windows 11 on ARM | `_arm64-setup.exe` | The x64 file also works (emulated) |
| Mac with Apple chip (M1, M2, M3, M4 …) | `_aarch64.dmg` | Signed and notarized by Apple |
| Mac with Intel processor | `_x64.dmg` | |
| Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, Raspberry Pi OS | `.deb` | Recommended for these systems |
| Other Linux (Fedora, Arch, openSUSE …) | `.AppImage` | One file, runs everywhere |
| Linux with Flatpak | `.flatpak` | No automatic updates, needs internet to install |

On Linux, every format exists for x64 and for ARM64. ARM64 files have `aarch64` or `arm64` in their name.
32-bit systems are not supported.

**Mac: Apple chip or Intel?** Open the Apple menu and choose **About This Mac**. **Chip Apple M…** means
Apple chip, **Processor Intel …** means Intel. The automatic download always gives Macs the Apple chip
version, because Safari does not tell the website which processor the Mac has.

**Linux: x64 or ARM64?** Run `uname -m` in a terminal. `x86_64` means x64, `aarch64` means ARM64. A
Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 with the 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS is ARM64.

## Windows

1. Download the `.exe` file and open it.
2. If Windows shows **Windows protected your PC**, click **More info**, then **Run anyway**. The app is
   signed, but new versions start with little reputation at Microsoft SmartScreen.
3. Follow the installer. Kickertool 3 then appears in the start menu.

## macOS

1. Download the `.dmg` file and open it.
2. Drag the app into the **Applications** folder.
3. Start the app from **Applications** or Launchpad, not from the opened disk image.

The Intel version also runs on a Mac with Apple chip, but needs Rosetta. macOS offers to install Rosetta
if it is missing. The Apple chip version is faster there.

## Linux

### .deb (Ubuntu, Debian, Linux Mint, Raspberry Pi OS)

Install the file with apt, in the folder where the file is. On x64:

```sh
sudo apt install ./Kickertool-3_*_amd64.deb
```

On ARM64 the file ends with `_arm64.deb`. For the Petanque App, the file starts with `Petanque-App_`. apt also installs missing dependencies such as
`libwebkit2gtk-4.1`, which needs internet once. `dpkg -i` does not install them. The app then appears in the
application menu and updates itself. To start it from a terminal, run `kickertool-3` or `petanque-app`.

### AppImage (all distributions)

1. Make the file executable: in the file manager under **Properties**, turn on **Allow executing file as
   program**, or in a terminal:

   ```sh
   chmod +x Kickertool-3_*_amd64.AppImage
   ```

   On ARM64 the file ends with `_aarch64.AppImage`.

2. Double-click the file to start it.

An AppImage is a single file and is not installed. Keep it in a fixed folder, for example `~/Applications`.
It updates itself.

### Flatpak

Flatpak must be installed on your system. Then, on x64:

```sh
flatpak install --user app.tournament.tauri.kickertool-x86_64.flatpak
```

On ARM64 the file is `app.tournament.tauri.kickertool-aarch64.flatpak`. For the Petanque App, replace
`kickertool` with `petanque`. Start the app from the application menu or with
`flatpak run app.tournament.tauri.kickertool`.

The installation loads the GNOME runtime from the internet (several hundred MB). A Flatpak does not update
itself, see [Updates](/kickertool/desktop/updates/). For a computer that must work completely offline, take
the `.deb` or the AppImage.

## Prepare for a venue without internet

1. Install the app at home or wherever you have internet.
2. Start it once and log in.
3. Close it. From now on it starts without internet.

Run the app once before the event day, so a pending update is installed at home and not at the venue.

## Kickertool V2 and the download version

Kickertool V2 and Kickertool 3 are separate apps. You can install both side by side; installing one does not
touch the other. Tournaments from V2 are not taken over, see
[Tournament data](/kickertool/desktop/data/).

## FAQ

### Do I have to uninstall Kickertool V2 first?

No. Kickertool V2 and Kickertool 3 are separate apps and can be installed at the same time. Neither changes
the data of the other.

### Can I install Kickertool 3 and the Petanque App on the same computer?

Yes. Both are separate apps with their own tournaments. They can be installed side by side, also as
`.deb` packages and next to Kickertool V2.

### Does the download version run on a Raspberry Pi?

Yes, on a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5 with the 64-bit Raspberry Pi OS. Take the ARM64 `.deb` file. 32-bit systems
are not supported.

### Does the download version run on a tablet or phone?

No. The download version exists for Windows, macOS and Linux. On tablets and phones, use the online
version in the browser.
