Online or download version?

Also known as: desktop app, offline, installer, Windows, macOS, Linux

Kickertool 3 comes in two variants of the same app: the online version in the browser and the download version, a desktop app you install on Windows, macOS or Linux. Both work the same way and always have the same version number. The download version brings the complete app with it, so installing and starting it needs no internet.

There is one app per sport: Kickertool 3 for table soccer and the Petanque App. More sports follow later. Everything on these pages applies to both.

Online version Download version
Where In the browser, e.g. app.kickertool3.de or petanque.tournament.app Installed app, from download.tournament.app
First start Needs internet Works without internet
Offline Keeps working offline once loaded Works offline from the start
Updates Automatic in the background Automatic in the background (except Flatpak)
Tournaments Stored in the browser Stored in the app, synced via your account
Systems Any current browser, also tablets and phones Windows 10/11, macOS, Linux (x64 and ARM64)

The online version is a web app. After the first visit, the browser keeps a copy and the app keeps running without internet. That copy can get lost if the browser clears its data, and a new device always needs internet for the first start.

  • Take the online version if you have internet at the venue, run the tournament on a tablet or phone, or want to try Kickertool quickly.
  • Take the download version if the venue has no reliable internet, if you want a fixed app on a tournament laptop, or if you are used to the installable Kickertool V2.

You can use both. Each one stores its tournaments locally, and sync with your account brings them to the other, see Tournament data.

Login, sync between devices and live results on the result page need internet, in both variants. Without a connection the tournament runs locally on this device.

Install the download version on Windows, macOS or Linux.
