Tournament data in the download version

Also known as: backup, export, sync, transfer, new computer, Kickertool V2

The download version stores your tournaments locally on the computer, inside the app. The online version in the browser has its own storage. Sync with your account connects both, the same way it connects two devices.

The download version is the same app as the online version, and sync works the same way. Log in with the same account in both and go online: the app downloads your synced tournaments, and changes on one side appear on the other.

Without internet, a tournament stays where you created it until the app is online again.

  1. Install the download version on the new computer.
  2. Start it with internet and log in with your account.
  3. The app downloads your synced tournaments.

In the tournament list, click the download icon in the row of the tournament and choose Export as Database Dump (JSON). The app asks where to save the file. Keep the file on a USB stick or in a cloud folder.

Do this before you uninstall the app, reinstall it or move to a new computer. The tournaments are part of your user profile on this computer and do not move with the installer.

Uninstalling removes the app, not your tournaments. They stay on the computer, and a new installation of the same app finds them again. Updates never delete anything.

  • Windows: the uninstaller shows a checkbox Delete the application data. It is off by default.
  • macOS: moving the app to the Trash keeps the data.
  • Linux: apt remove and apt purge keep the data in your home folder, and so does deleting the AppImage file. flatpak uninstall keeps the data as well, flatpak uninstall --delete-data removes it.

Kickertool V2 and Kickertool 3 are separate apps with separate data. Kickertool 3 does not take over tournaments or players from V2, and does not change anything in V2. We are working on a way to bring V2 tournaments over.

Why are my tournaments from the browser missing in the app?

The download version has its own storage. Log in with the same account as in the browser and go online. The app then downloads your synced tournaments.

I installed Kickertool 3. Where are my tournaments from Kickertool V2?

Still in Kickertool V2. Kickertool 3 does not take over data from V2. Both apps can be installed side by side.

Are my tournaments lost when I uninstall the app?

No, as long as you leave Delete the application data unchecked on Windows. When you install the same app again, the tournaments are back. Export them first anyway, especially when you move to a new computer.

Are my tournaments lost after an update?

No. Updates replace the app, not your tournaments.
