Troubleshooting the download version
Also known as: error, does not start, SmartScreen, exec format error, AppImage, libfuse2, NVIDIA, white window
This page collects the problems that come up most often when installing or starting the download version. Find your error message or symptom below. If nothing helps, write to hello@tournament.io with your operating system and the exact file name you downloaded.
Windows says “Windows protected your PC”. Is the app safe?
Yes. The app is signed by tournament.io UG. Microsoft SmartScreen warns about new versions until enough people have installed them. Click More info, then Run anyway.
The Mac app does not start or asks for Rosetta
Drag the app from the disk image into Applications and start it from there, not from the opened disk
image. If macOS asks for Rosetta, you downloaded the Intel version on a Mac with Apple chip. Install Rosetta
when asked, or download the Apple chip version (_aarch64.dmg) instead.
Linux says “Exec format error” or “cannot execute binary file”
The file is for a different processor architecture, usually an x64 file on an ARM64 computer. This happens
on a Raspberry Pi or in a Linux virtual machine on a Mac with Apple chip. Check with uname -m and download
the ARM64 file (aarch64 or arm64 in the name).
The AppImage does not start
Make the file executable: Properties, then Allow executing file as program, or
chmod +x <file>.AppImage. If it still does not start, FUSE 2 may be missing. Install it with
sudo apt install libfuse2, on Ubuntu 24.04 and later with sudo apt install libfuse2t64.
The .deb reports missing dependencies like libwebkit2gtk-4.1
Install the file with sudo apt install ./<file>.deb instead of dpkg -i. apt loads the missing packages,
which needs internet once.
The window stays white or empty, or it flickers (Linux)
This happens mostly with NVIDIA graphics. Start the app from a terminal with the variable
WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1. The command depends on the format, shown here for Kickertool 3:
| Format | Command |
|---|---|
.deb |
WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 kickertool-3 |
| AppImage | WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 ./Kickertool-3_*_amd64.AppImage |
| Flatpak | flatpak run --env=WEBKIT_DISABLE_DMABUF_RENDERER=1 app.tournament.tauri.kickertool |
For the Petanque App, use petanque-app, the Petanque-App_… file or app.tournament.tauri.petanque. For
the AppImage, write the real file name of your download.
How do I install the Flatpak?
Flatpak must be installed on your system. Run flatpak install --user <file>.flatpak. The installation
loads the GNOME runtime from the internet, several hundred MB.
The Flatpak does not get updates
Flatpak bundles do not update themselves. Download the new .flatpak file and install it again, see
Updates.
My tournaments from the browser are missing in the app
The download version has its own storage. Log in with the same account as in the browser and go online. The app then downloads your synced tournaments. See Tournament data.
A second start of the app does not open a second window
The app runs only once per computer. Starting it again brings the open window to the front.
How do I open the display for a projector?
The same way as in the browser. The display opens in its own window, which you move to the projector or second screen.
