Table columns

Also known as: ranking, rankings, leaderboard, knockout, KO, bracket

The standings table of a stage is built from columns. Every column is a number Kickertool calculates from the results, and the columns with Count switched on decide the order of the table. This page explains every column, how it is calculated and when it is useful.

Open the standings of a discipline and click the settings icon to open the Column Configuration. For every column you see two switches:

  • Show: the column is visible in the standings, on the external display and on the result page.
  • Count: the column is used for sorting. The order of the rows in the dialog is the sorting priority, top first.

Add Table Column adds any column from the list below. Hide paused entries and Hide removed entries keep the table clean during a MonsterDYP. Columns can be switched on without counting, for example the goal difference as information only.

Every mode comes with a sensible default, see the end of this page.

A match consists of one or more encounters, an encounter of one or more sets, a set of a score.

  1. A set is won by the side with more goals. With Quick Entry a set counts as 1:0 for the winner.
  2. An encounter is won by the side with more sets. With one set per encounter, set and encounter are the same thing. Equal sets, for example 1:1 in a best of two, make the encounter a draw.
  3. A match is won by the side with more won encounters. Without Play with Multiple Encounters a match has exactly one encounter.
  4. Points are awarded per match: Points for Win to the winner, Points for Draw to both on a draw, 0 to the loser. With Points for Close Matches on, a match whose total goal difference is within the configured difference gives the close-win and close-loss points instead.

A bye does not count as a match. With Bye Rating on, it counts as a won match with the goals to win against half of that, 7:4 with 7 goals, in every set of every encounter.

  1. Participants without a match go to the bottom.
  2. Participants removed from the tournament go to the bottom.
  3. The columns with Count, from top to bottom in the Column Configuration. A higher value ranks higher, except for the place columns Rank, Stage Result and Preliminary Stage Result, where a lower number ranks higher.
  4. In an elimination stage, participants who are already out rank below those still playing.
  5. Direct comparison: if two participants are still equal and have played each other, the winner of that match ranks higher.
  6. The order of the entry list.
Column Head What it shows
Rank Rank. The position in the table after sorting, 1 for the top. Always available, never needed for sorting.
Name Name The entry: player, doubles or team name.
Column Head What it shows
Points Pkt Points from all matches: Points for Win, Points for Draw and the close-match points as configured. The standard first column for every mode with fixed entries.
Average Points ØP Points divided by matches played. Compares participants with different match counts, for example after byes.
Average Points (fair) ØP* Average Points with a correction for participants who played clearly fewer matches than the field: for every match below the minimum, the average points per match of the field are subtracted first. Corrected values carry a star. The standard first column in MonsterDYP, see MonsterDYP for the exact rule.
Column Head What it shows
Match Count Num. Matches played. Byes are not counted unless Bye Rating is on. Shown by default, never used for sorting.
Matches Won Won Won matches.
Matches Lost Lost Lost matches.
Matches Draw Draw Drawn matches.
Match Difference Won minus lost matches. Equivalent to points when a win gives 2 and a draw 1, but easier to read.

Only different from matches when you play with Multiple Encounters, for example team matches with several games.

Column Head What it shows
Encounters Won E+ Won encounters.
Encounters Lost E- Lost encounters.
Encounters Draw E= Drawn encounters.
Encounters Difference Won minus lost encounters. The first tie-breaker in Round Robin, Rounds, MonsterDYP and Whist; with one encounter per match it equals the match difference.

Only relevant with more than one Winning Set.

Column Head What it shows
Sets Won S+ Won sets.
Sets Lost S- Lost sets.
Set Difference Won minus lost sets. A 2:0 in a best of three is worth more than a 2:1.

Not meaningful with Quick Entry, where every set counts 1:0.

Column Head What it shows
Goals G+ Goals scored.
Goals In G- Goals conceded.
Goal Difference Scored minus conceded. The last tie-breaker in most modes.

These columns rank participants with equal points by whom they played. They only make sense when not everybody has played everybody, so in the Swiss System and in MonsterDYP.

Column Head What it shows
Buchholz Score 1 BH₁ The sum of the points of all opponents. Two participants with 8 points each: the one whose opponents collected more points had the harder draw and ranks higher. The standard tie-breaker in the Swiss System.
Buchholz Score 2 BH₂ The sum of the BH₁ values of all opponents. One level deeper: how strong were the opponents of your opponents. Breaks ties that BH₁ leaves.
Buchholz Score 1 (average) ØBH₁ The average points per match of all opponents. Used in MonsterDYP, where opponents are individual players with different match counts, so a sum would favour whoever played more.
Buchholz Score 2 (average) ØBH₂ The average of the ØBH₁ values of all opponents.
Sonneborn-Berger SB The points of every opponent you beat, plus half the points of every opponent you drew with. Unlike Buchholz it rewards beating strong opponents rather than merely facing them. Common in chess, optional here.

Example for Buchholz: A and B both have 6 points after 4 rounds. A’s opponents have 6, 4, 4 and 2 points, BH₁ equals 16. B’s opponents have 8, 6, 4 and 4 points, BH₁ equals 22. B ranks above A.

Only in Last One Standing.

Column Head What it shows
Lives Left Lives Number of Lives minus lost matches. At 0 the participant is out. Late joiners start with the average of the field.
Last Round Played Rnd The last round in which the participant had a match. Among participants with 0 lives, the one who lasted longer ranks higher.
Column Head What it shows
Stage Result Res. The place reached in the current elimination stage: 1 and 2 for the finalists, 3 and 4 for the semi-finalists, then 5 for everybody who lost in the quarter-finals, 9 for the round of 16, and so on. With a match for third place, 3 and 4 are played out. In Direct Playoffs it is the place decided by the playoff match.
Preliminary Stage Result Pre. The place from the previous stage, usually the qualifying. Breaks ties between participants who went out in the same round.

In an elimination stage, Rank is the position after sorting by Stage Result and Preliminary Stage Result: everybody who lost in the quarter-finals shares Stage Result 5, and the qualifying place puts them in order.

Columns in brackets are configured but hidden by default.

Mode Columns in sorting order
Swiss System Points, BH₁, (BH₂), Match Count

Last One Standing Lives, Rnd, E±, S±, G±
Elimination, Double Elimination, Lord Have Mercy Rank, (Res.), (Pre.)
Direct Playoffs Res.

Match Count never sorts. Rank never sorts, it is the outcome of the sorting.
