Round Robin
Also known as: standings, ranking, rankings, leaderboard, league
In Round Robin every participant plays every other participant once. Kickertool creates the complete schedule when the stage starts. Use it for small fields, or with groups as the group stage before an elimination.
Entry types: Single, Doubles, Team Name.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”- When you start the stage, all rounds are generated at once. With an even field the schedule has one round less than there are participants: 6 teams play 5 rounds with 3 matches each. With an odd field one participant has a bye in every round and the schedule has as many rounds as participants: 5 teams play 5 rounds with 2 matches each.
- The order of the entry list is the seeding of the schedule. Kickertool uses a standard circle schedule, so the schedule is fair in itself: nobody plays all strong opponents at the end.
- Matches can be played in any order. Kickertool assigns the next open match to a free table; a participant is never on two tables at once.
- The stage is complete when every match has a result. There is no New Round button and no way to remove rounds.
Number of matches
Section titled “Number of matches”Each participant plays n minus 1 matches, the whole group plays n times (n minus 1) divided by 2 matches.
| Participants | Rounds | Matches | Matches per participant |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 3 | 6 | 3 |
| 5 | 5 | 10 | 4 |
| 6 | 5 | 15 | 5 |
| 8 | 7 | 28 | 7 |
| 10 | 9 | 45 | 9 |
Above 8 participants a round robin takes long. Split into groups or use the Swiss System.
Groups
Section titled “Groups”Round Robin supports groups. Set the number of groups in the discipline settings and check the group assignment before you start. Every group plays its own round robin and has its own table; you can assign specific tables to a group.
When you create the elimination afterwards, the seeding takes the group placings into account: all group winners are seeded above all runners-up, and participants from the same group are placed as far apart in the bracket as possible.
The table
Section titled “The table”Columns in sorting order:
- Points
- Encounters Difference (E±): won minus lost encounters. Only relevant with multiple encounters per match.
- Set Difference (S±): won minus lost sets.
- Goal Difference (G±): scored minus conceded goals.
Match Count is shown but never used for sorting. If two participants are still equal after all columns, the direct comparison decides: whoever won the match between them ranks higher. See Table columns for every column and the full sorting order.
Options
Section titled “Options”- Draw: allow drawn matches. With a fixed number of goals per match, a draw is a common result.
- Points for Win and Points for Draw.
- Points for Close Matches: give the loser of a 5:4 something, useful in small groups where every point counts.
- Play with Multiple Encounters for team matches with several games per match.
