Whist
Whist is a fixed-schedule mode for individual players. Over the tournament every player partners every other player exactly once and faces every other player exactly twice. Use it for small, fully balanced events where everyone should play with everyone. The name comes from the card game, where the same schedules are used for progressive whist evenings.
Entry type: MonsterDYP. Groups are not supported.
How it works
Section titled “How it works”- When the stage starts, Kickertool generates the complete schedule from a fixed table for the given player count. All rounds are visible from the start.
- With an even count the schedule has one round less than there are players, with an odd count one player sits out per round and the schedule has as many rounds as players. Every round has n divided by 4 matches.
- Every player collects the points of their matches. The ranking is decided by Points, then by encounter, set and goal difference. Since everybody has played with and against everybody, no Buchholz score is needed.
Player counts
Section titled “Player counts”Whist needs a player count that is a multiple of four, or a multiple of four plus one: 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, and so on. Kickertool has schedules for every such count from 4 up to 97, and for 101. Check-in is blocked for any other count, so with 10 players you have to find two more or send two home.
| Players | Rounds | Matches per round | Matches per player |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 | 3 | 1 | 3 |
| 5 | 5 | 1 | 4 |
| 8 | 7 | 2 | 7 |
| 9 | 9 | 2 | 8 |
| 12 | 11 | 3 | 11 |
| 16 | 15 | 4 | 15 |
Whist or MonsterDYP
Section titled “Whist or MonsterDYP”Both modes draw individual players into new teams every round. Whist guarantees the perfect balance but needs the exact player count, the full number of rounds and no changes to the field. MonsterDYP approximates the balance round by round and takes any player count, late arrivals, pauses and an open end.
Options
Section titled “Options”- Randomize entries before tournament start: shuffle the seats in the schedule. On by default.
- Draw, Points for Win, Points for Draw.
